PEPQA 2021 - UNIANDES SERENA DEL MAR

About PEPQA

Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA) is a workshop that provides a forum for students, academics, and most industry professionals to collaborate on meeting the ever-increasing power electronics and power quality challenges in the region. The workshop covers a range of topics, including:

1) Power electronics converters.

2) Adjustable speed drives.

3) PE in transmission and distribution.

4) Power Quality analysis.

5) Power Quality design.

6) Modeling, simulation & education in PE/PQ.

PEPQA 2019

The 4th edition of PEPQA workshop 2019, was organized by the IAS Uniandes chapter and the IAS chapter of the Universidad Nacional Sede Manizales. This edition of PEPQA realized in the Universidad Nacional Sede Manizales on May 30 and 31. The congress included conferences by renowned people such as Dr. Ing. Joachim Holtz, focused on the predictive control method for frequency inverters developed by him at SIEMENS and the University of Wuppertal, Ing. James Mercier presented on correct modeling of grounding systems in buildings. Dr. Ing. Mauricio Aredes based his lecture on the modeling of synchro-inverters and the possible impact on the network. The Ing. Miguel Aldrete, performed a dynamic on the limitation of electrical transients in power systems, using voltage suppressors. Dr. Ing. Manuel Madrigal presented about the impact of distributed generation and finally Dr. Elmer Sorrentino presented his doctoral thesis based on the calculation of sequence impedance in three-winding transformers. In total there were 6 speakers, workshops, exhibitions, and more than 200 attendees.

PEPQA 2017

The new edition of PEPQA had with the presence of  Josep Guerrero (AC and DC Microgrids), Brian MacCleery (Active Stabilization of The Power Grid with Sync Inverters), Surya Santoso (Towards Perfect Power Quality: Root Causes and Solutions) and Mark Halpin (Modeling and simulation requirements for power quality analysis in the future power systems). The conference also offered an exhibit hall where sponsors could share their services with participants. This conference had 10 tutorials, 2 special sessions, 2 super sessions, 2 paper sessions, 1 poster session and 3 successful study cases.
Over 155 attendees could approach with technical equipment and strategies that set the trend in industrial applications on power quality and power electronics.

PEPQA 2015

The second version will be held on June 2-4, 2015 at Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia. A total of 400 attendees will be participating in three days of keynotes, tutorials, hands-on, papers and poster presentations among new activities designed to improve the collaboration between industry professionals and the academic community. Moreover, the event will feature the participation of Mark McGranaghan and Roger Dugan from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) among other distinguished lecturers.

PEPQA 2013

On its first version, more than 200 participants from countries of the Andean region attended to PEPQA 2013. The event was sponsored by seven international and local organizations and technically cosponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IEEE IAS). Participants had the opportunity to hear six keynote speeches, from the University of Rio de Janeiro (Mauricio Aredes), IAS (Mark Halpin and Peter Sutherland), Eaton (David Durocher), National Instruments (Roberto Piacentini), and the University of Toronto (George Anders). During the two-day workshop, 35 papers were presented in seven technical sessions. In addition, there were two tutorials and two hands-on sessions on power electronics by experts in the field. PEPQA was organized by the Universidad de los Andes SB IAS Chapter and was held in conjunction with the first IAS EB Meeting outside North America.
