Discover Cartagena de Indias, a jewel of world heritage

The ‘Heroic City,’ as Cartagena de Indias is known, brings together the charm of colonial architecture, the excitement of a vivid night life, fascinating cultural festivals, and lush landscapes, to bring you the perfect vacation experience. The city’s beaches beckon, inviting you to unwind and enjoy yourself in the refreshing breeze and warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

But that’s not all Cartagena has to offer— the city also has excellent cuisine and a thriving hotel and tourist infrastructure.

This fabulous destination holds the secrets of history within its walls, on its balconies, and in the narrow stone walkways that inspired author Gabriel García Márquez, who was received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.

Framed by its stunning bay, Cartagena de Indias is one of the most beautiful, well-preserved cities in the Americas; a treasure that is currently one of the most heavily frequented tourist destinations in Colombia.

The Universidad de los Andes building is located in Serena del Mar. The Caribbean Campus has an area of 3,000 m2, which contains classrooms, collaborative work areas, networking areas, offices, healthcare services, cafés, and areas for wellbeing and reading.

Brandon Haw Architecture (BHA) designed the Universidad de los Andes new building (14,097 m2 in total), which includes inside and outside spaces to create collaborative work areas that frame the Caribbean landscape. One of the most interesting parts of the design is the concrete fins that can be seen throughout the whole year depending on where the sun is located; they regulate how the Caribbean sunlight enters the complex and create shady areas while maintaining the view of the building’s landscape exterior. The bioclimatic design was created specifically based on local conditions.

This building is the university’s first campus outside its main campus in Bogotá.

Serena del Mar was built twelve kilometers from Cartagena’s historic center; it is a new city that was designed and planned by world leaders in urbanism and landscaping.

  • Serena del Mar is set on 1,000 hectares: it is 70 percent green spaces, there are 30 kilometers of paths inside the complex, 35 kilometers of cycle paths, 16 kilometers of navigable waterways, and 1.6 kilometers of beach.
  • There are 17,000 residential options that have been designed for different styles of living and different moments in life. Everything from student accommodation to single-family houses and apartment complexes are integrated into the communal areas that belong to the whole community.
  • Serena del Mar began construction in 2015.
